ash

• ash is black + conciliatory; this requires both feelings of HATRED and TRUST
• ash like smoky, warm. not the searing flame of pitch-black hatred, but the gentle irritation of a fire burned down to embers. ash attraction is stormy, like a thunderclap of rain -- relief after so long of being scorched -- rain sizzling out the flames into something gentle, managable. see, ash can be romantic, too.
• ASHEN IS ITS OWN AND SEPARATE RELATIONSHIP. YOUR MOIRAIL CANNOT BE YOUR AUSPISTICE. "but kanaya--" first of all vriska and kanaya broke up paleways to date ashen, and second of all kanaya is a TERRIBLE auspistice bc she has a red crush on vriska and is only auspiticizing to keep vriska and tavros apart out of jealousy. all ashen relationships built on this will FAIL.
• the important parts of an ashen relationship are that each feeling for the other person tends to be unique; there is (1) the feelings of the auspiticized parties towards each other (2) towards the auspistice (3) the feeling of the auspistice towards (ideally, in a healthy ashen relationship) each of the auspiticized parties.
• (1) the auspiticized parties obviously feel towards each other something a lot more black than ash; that's fine. it's necessary to the formation of the relationship. once inside the relationship, ideally this will simmer down into something a little more ash than black -- light bickering with no intention of taking it further, sexual feelings fading, butting heads in a playful way. this is a healthy, idealized ashen relationship and rarely happens, given the general instability of most triads
• (2) the auspiticized parties feel towards the auspistice irritation also. this is important. ashen is a black quadrant. they don't WANT to be separated; they find it SUPREMELY annoying that someone is stepping in to meddle with their relationships, who the fuck do they think they are? there will often be RESISTANCE. a common courting ritual of an auspistice claiming a relationship is getting into a physical fight with them. the auspistice has to win. if they lose, they're likely to be killed. but if they win, the auspiticized parties will gain respect for them. step skipped if respect is already had, for whatever reason. but the auspiticized parties must have grudging respect for the auspistice, or this won't work. they have to be moderately scaried/worried about stepping out of line; otherwise, they won't listen to a word the auspistice says.
• I know, I know, "respect" is supposed to be more applicable to pitch more than ash; you can consider this "trust," if you like. trust that they can stop you. if you don't trust them, the relationship falls apart. whether or not respect is a component of that is lowkey irrelevant
• (3) the auspistice must hate their guts but in a completely platonic way and in a way that makes them want to intervene, not just watch them self destruct. you don't want to beat the shit out of them because you hate them and then you make out after, that's pitch. you only want to beat the shit out of them if they're being irritating, if they're not listening to you, if they're deliberately acting out; and then the beating them is so that they listen to you. it's so they stand down. they need to stand down.
• okay most of this is not necessarily applicable to mine but I do really like their different types of relationships at the bottom -- four leaf clover, stable clover, lucky clover, blackleaf, looseleaf, floating leaf) -- this is a really interesting way of looking at this as a more "variable" relationship than the others considering that it's managing many different people; that's really fun to me
